The best gift for most coffee lovers is freshly roasted coffee from an independent UK roaster, ideally a taster pack or selection box that lets them try two to four coffees they would not have picked themselves. Expect to pay about £15 to £20 for a small taster pack and £25 to £35 for a selection box.

Coffee makes a good present because it gets used (the British Coffee Association puts UK consumption at about 103 million cups a day), it is easy to post, and it can be as safe or as adventurous as you like. This guide covers what to buy at three budgets, how to get the grind right without spoiling the surprise, and when to order. The figures come from the gift sets, taster packs and bundles that 45 UK roasters listed on Meet Your Coffee in October 2026: 132 of them, at a typical price of about £28.

What makes a good coffee gift?

  • It is fresh. Look for a roaster that roasts to order or prints a roast date. A gift that sat in a warehouse since spring will taste flat by Christmas.
  • It suits how they brew. A filter coffee lover and an espresso machine owner want different things. If you can find out what they use at home, you can buy with confidence.
  • It offers some variety. Two or three different coffees are more fun than one big bag, and they help the person discover what they like.
  • It arrives in time. Many roasters roast and pack by hand, so allow for the roast day as well as the post.

Coffee gifts under £20

At this price you are looking at small taster packs (three or four small bags, often 80 to 100 g each) or a single bag of something special, such as a rare single origin. In October 2026, 59 of the gift sets in our catalogue cost £25 or less. Taster packs built around a flavour theme, such as "chocolate lover" or "fruit lover" bundles, are a good way to give something personal on a small budget.

A single bag can be just as thoughtful. Pick a coffee from a region they have visited, or something they would never buy for themselves: a natural-process Ethiopian for someone who drinks dark roasts, or a Kenyan with blackcurrant notes for a filter fan.

Selection boxes from £20 to £35: the sweet spot

This is where most coffee gift sets sit. For £20 to £35 you will usually get three or four full-size or near full-size bags, often in a gift box. Many roasters offer the same box in two versions, one for espresso and one for filter, which solves the grind question for you. A few build boxes around a theme: a tour of origins, a light-to-dark roast flight, or a decaf set.

If you are buying for a household that drinks a lot of coffee, a selection box is also better value than it looks. Compare the total weight with a single bag: three 250 g bags at £30 works out at £4 per 100 g, about the typical price of a specialty coffee.

Big sets and advent calendars: £35 and up

Above £35 you will find larger discovery sets (six bags or more), sets that pair coffee with a mug or a brewer, and coffee advent calendars. Several UK roasters make an advent calendar with a different coffee for each day, usually in small sachets or bags; when we checked in October 2026 they cost about £50 to £65. They often sell out by late November, so order early.

Gifts for decaf drinkers, espresso lovers and filter fans

  • Decaf drinkers are often forgotten. Almost every roaster we list sells a decaf, and some make decaf sampler packs. Our decaf buying guide explains what to look for on the bag.
  • Espresso machine owners will be happiest with whole beans roasted for espresso. Chocolatey, nutty coffees are a safe bet if they drink lattes and flat whites. See espresso coffees.
  • Filter and pour-over fans tend to enjoy lighter roasts with fruit and floral notes. See filter coffees.

Whole bean or ground?

If they own a grinder, always buy whole beans: they stay fresh much longer. If they don't, buy coffee ground for their brewer. Most roasters grind for free, and 94% of the coffees in our catalogue can be bought ground. If you can't find out what they use, a cafetière grind is the safest guess for a UK kitchen: it is the most common grind option in our catalogue, offered for about 1,000 coffees.

Not sure what they like at all? Our Find my coffee quiz takes a minute and suggests coffees by taste, brew method and budget.

When to order coffee for Christmas

Roasters publish their own last order dates for Christmas delivery, usually in early to mid December, and they often move them earlier when demand is high. Order a week before the date you see, and remember that the roast day comes before the posting day. Most roasters deliver anywhere in the UK, so you can usually send the gift straight to the person; each coffee page on Meet Your Coffee shows the delivery cost.

What about a coffee subscription?

A gift subscription (a bag a month for three or six months) is a lovely present for a serious coffee drinker, and many roasters sell them on their own websites. We list one-off bags and sets rather than subscriptions, so to find one, start from the roasters directory and visit the roaster's own shop.

What this means when you buy

  • Browse gift sets and taster packs from UK roasters, with prices and delivery compared.
  • Buy whole beans if they have a grinder; otherwise ask for the grind that matches their brewer.
  • Check the roaster's Christmas cut-off date before you order.
  • You buy from the roaster, on their website. We never sell coffee ourselves.

Questions people ask

Is coffee a good gift for someone who already has a favourite?

Yes, if you give them something different from their usual. A taster pack is ideal: they still get to drink coffee they like, and they discover a new roaster or origin along the way.

How long does a coffee gift keep?

Sealed bags of whole beans keep well for weeks: the one-way valve on most specialty bags lets carbon dioxide out without letting air in. Once a bag is open the flavour fades faster, so a taster pack of small bags suits someone who drinks one cup a day better than a single kilo.

Can I send it directly to the person?

Usually, yes. When you check out on the roaster's site, enter their address as the delivery address. Many roasters let you add a gift note.
